In the interview, Mutsa speaks about the gaps in the mainstream sex workers’ rights movement when it comes to centring racialised and migrant voices, the specific challenges of conducting research with communities who have every reason to distrust institutions, and what it means to organise as a racialised person in service of communities routinely excluded from the conversations that shape their lives.

Racial Justice for SWers Project

The Racial Justice for Sex Workers Project is a national participatory research and advocacy programme co-produced with racialised sex workers across the UK. We’ve spent two phases examining how racism and sex work stigma compound each other across healthcare, housing, policing, higher education, and support services – and translating what racialised sex workers told us into policy demands, sector engagement, and now a suite of e-learning modules for frontline practitioners and commissioners.

The project has been renewed for phase three with the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, focused on movement building, visibility, and influence – and on making sure that what racialised sex workers have told us doesn’t just sit in a report, but actually changes how services work.
