Why Report? Sex Workers who Use NUM Opt out of Sharing Victimisation with Police
2 September 2021
We are delighted to be able to share the publication of our first research article at NUM: Why Report? Sex Workers who Use NUM Opt out of Sharing Victimisation with Police. This has been published as part of Sexuality Research and Social Policy.
This article shares data from a survey amongst 88 NUM members on why, or why not, they choose to report to the police after experiencing harm or victimisation. It presents powerful testimony regarding the failings of the criminal justice system for sex workers – a case as to both why NUM exists, and why it shouldn’t have to.
It is available open-access, so click the link here to have a read! https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13178-021-00627-1
The article has been written by Dr. Raven Bowen, our CEO; Rosie Hodsdon, our Executive Assistant; Kerri Swindells, our COO; and Charlotte Blake, our former Digital Research Coordinator. It would not have been possible without the kindness, generosity and openness of our members, and in particular, those who responded to our survey.
