NUM responds to the Crime and Policing Bill
4 April 2025
Our submission is public on the parliament website: https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5901/cmpublic/CrimePolicing/memo/CPB05.htm
NUM has submitted written evidence to the Public Bill Committee in respect of the Crime and Policing Bill, and 3 proposed amendments:
“NUM strongly opposes NC1 and NC2, which would criminalise the purchase of sex and the advertising of sexual services, as well as any act to assist or support sex workers in carrying out sex work. These amendments conflate consensual sex work with trafficking and sexual exploitation and would cause significant harm to sex workers if they were to be adopted.
NUM supports NC3, as it acts to remove the offence of “loitering or soliciting for purposes of prostitution”. We support the decriminalisation of sex work, and adopting NC3 would be an important step in reducing stigma towards sex workers, preventing them from being targeted by over-zealous policing.”
