Research Opportunity for NUM Members: ‘Deepfakes’ Survey Closing 9th May
2 May 2025
Researchers at Crest Advisory are exploring experiences of sexual ‘deepfakes’, or fake intimate images made to look real. They are reaching out to members who have been victimised by artificially-created sexual content. If you have been a victim of this type of harm, have your experience heard in a safe and anonymous way. Crest Advisory is an independent research organisation who have been commissioned by UK Policing.
National Ugly Mugs has not been involved in the development of this research. We are sharing only for members who want to take part in this survey.
Who can take part?
This anonymous survey takes 5-10 mins to complete and is for adults who have had an intimate or sexual deepfake created or shared without their consent. This survey asks you about your experience of non-consensual deepfakes and image-sharing, as well as your access to support after an incident. At the end, you have the option to provide details of your age, gender identity, and ethnicity. You can skip any questions or stop at any time.
How will the results be used?
Findings from survey responses and interviews will be used to develop guidance for policing to better support victims of deepfakes. Members can register interest for an anonymous interview at the end of the survey.
