NUM Tools and How To Use Them

Our website provides a number of different tools to help you stay safe and report incidents of harm, crime or violence against you.

NUM Checker

The NUM checker is for you to screen your clients, keeping you safe and informed of any details previously reported to NUM. You can use this checker to search for:

  • email addresses
  • mobile and landline telephone numbers
  • online profile handles (e.g. adultwork)
  • vehicle registrations.

Simply type the details you want to check into the search bar. If they are known to us, you will receive a warning message.

The Report Process

A report is submitted
All reports are looked at by the NUM casework team, who process the report and create an alert. You will be contacted with an offer of support and if necessary, to gather more information for the alert.

An alert is disseminated
Case workers share the alert based on the type of consent provided by the person who reported the incident – it is up to you who receives information that you report to NUM. In addition to reports being shared with NUM members, consent can be provided to share information anonymously with police as intelligence, used to pursue offenders. Members can also chose to provide full reports to police, and caseworkers will facilitate and support communications with police if this is what you would like.

Support is provided (if requested)
A case worker will send you an email to discuss your options, provide useful information and support you in making decisions about what happens next. People reporting harm are in full control.

NUM follows a strict confidentiality policy and will not disclose or share information about our members without permission, unless there are safeguarding concerns, as by law we have a duty to report if someone will cause harm to themselves or others. To find out more about our duties with regards to safeguarding and reporting, please see this information from the Social Care Institute for Excellence.

We assure you that we will always respect you and work to protect your interests and rights.

See the video below on to how to submit a report.

Malicious Reporting

Please respect NUM and its integrity. NUM’s reporting and alerting tools are here to help our members keep each other safe. False and malicious reporting can have serious consequences and may lead to police action or prosecution.
