HMICFRS releases review on police and CPS responses to rape
20 July 2021
HMICFRS (HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services) have recently released their report into victim experiences of police and Crown Prosecution Service responses following rape. NUM provided support to this investigation, and facilitated sex worker involvement in the research process to allow their views and experiences of engaging with the criminal justice system to be heard.
We would like to thank the researchers for being respectful of sex workers’ involvement and experiences, and we welcome the opportunity to have helped facilitate this. We now hope that the findings detailed in the report can be beneficial for sex workers in supporting their engagement with the criminal justice system if they choose to do so, but also for anyone who experiences sexual violence.
– Hannah, Casework Team Leader
The report notes that the police and CPS need to do more to help build trust and secure justice with those who experience rape, and that there needs to be stronger communication between the police, CPS and victims/survivors.
