Vocation, Vocation, Vocation: Supporting sex workers to access mainstream work

Vocation, Vocation, Vocation: Supporting sex workers to access mainstream work
2 March 2022

We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our Vocation, Vocation, Vocation campaign, aimed to support sex workers to make informed decisions about their lives and working practices on employment and education!

At NUM, we believe that support to sex workers should never be contingent on them leaving sex work. However, we also recognise that some sex workers do choose to leave sex work for a variety of reasons, and that those who do should be able to access support which recognises their unique needs and barriers, and understands how to overcome these.

We want to:

  • Hire a vocational support caseworker to provide one-to-one advice on career planning, education, and accessing financial resources
  • Integrate the Universal Credit application tool developed as part of Catalyst Challenge 9 with our existing website to support sex workers in applying for financial support
  • Develop resources with sex workers, for sex workers, offering guidance on applying for jobs, creating CVs and cover letters, accessing training, accessing Universal Credit and other support to leave sex work if they choose to do so
  • Continue to provide casework support to sex workers who have experienced harm or violence at work, helping them to find healing and justice, as well as our reporting and alerting system to prevent crime and reduce violence
