Please note that this statement and linked article contains reference to violent acts against sex workers.
NUM are pleased to hear that two men have been convicted in Leicester Crown Court following a series of violent robberies committed against sex workers across Leicester, Reading and Hove. NUM supported this investigation by providing information about the perpetrators and their methods of operation to the police.
Hannah, our ISVA Manager: Support Services, had this to say about the case:
“NUM’s database is one of a kind and houses a vast amount of data on offenders who target sex workers. We are able to work with the police sharing vital information with the consent of sex workers to bring offenders to justice and prevent sex worker targeted violence. Thank you to all sex workers who have the courage to share their own experiences and information with the casework team.”
The case demonstrates the vital role that NUM plays in providing sex workers with options to achieve justice, support and safety following crime and harm. It is thanks to the courage and care of our members that we are able to share this information with sex workers and, with consent, with criminal justice agencies. We would like to thank all those who came forward.
