As part of our continuing commitment to supporting the mental health of sex workers, National Ugly Mugs has produced a series of hypnotherapy sessions. These sessions have been developed by George, our Mental Health Support Services Co-ordinator, who is a professionally-qualified Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist, and cover a range of situations that might be encountered by both sex workers and members of the wider public.
The sessions cover:
Each session is about 25-30 minutes long, and is accompanied by images. The best approach is to find yourself a quiet space, with no distractions or disturbances, and settle down. You can decide whether you wish to use the images to aid your relaxation, or you can just gently close your eyes. (For obvious reasons, you shouldn’t do this whilst driving or operating heavy machinery.) Headphones aren’t vital, but they can add to the depth of the experience.
If during the session, for any reason, you need to be immediately alert and aware, then you will be, as you are actually in complete control of the process at all times.
There is no right or wrong way to experience this. You might hear every word, or you might drift off from time to time, or you might allow yourself to fall into a natural sleep; whatever you do it will be right for you right now.
Please note that these sessions are not intended as a substitute for specific professional support, and should not be used as such. If you would like further help, or want to explore other options to support your own mental health, please get in touch with us at mentalhealthsupport@nationaluglymugs.org
