NUM x The Brain Jar

We are delighted that The Brain Jar has chosen to support not just NUM, but local sex workers and performers, with their Porn Star Martini!

National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is a UK-wide charity dedicated to ending all forms of violence against sex workers. We support sex workers of all genders, ages, backgrounds and types of work by providing safety resources and specialist support.

A little more about what we do:

• We take reports of crime, harm and violence from sex workers, and send these out to other sex workers in their community to help them avoid potentially dangerous predators
• We have a casework team of specialist Independent Sexual Violence Advisors to provide non-judgemental support to sex workers who experience harm within their work – this can include supporting them to access the criminal justice system, or helping them to heal and recover outside of this
• We host a checker tool that allows sex workers to screen clients, seeing if their details have ever been reported to NUM before
• We provide specialist mental health resources created with sex workers, for sex workers, including a directory of sex worker-friendly therapists, guided hypnosis sessions and resources on grief and loss and suicide prevention
• We distribute emergency supermarket vouchers for sex workers facing financial hardship, as well as facilitating access to other forms of financial support
• We run NUMbrella Lane, a wellbeing space for sex workers in Glasgow, providing physical resources such as a food bank and harm reduction supplies, as well as community events, workshops and in-person support
• We conduct research and advocacy, led by sex workers, to understand issues facing the community, develop our services and push for law and policy changes to benefit sex workers – our recent projects have focused on financial discrimination, racial justice and developing resources for leaving sex work
